Linux boots on the Xbox One – and Bliss could open the door for everyone

Developer mezone (@Mezone0) has shown Linux running on an Xbox One. The demo used a special kit and a shortcut instead of the Bliss exploit, but the plan is a Bliss-based method that will work once that is fully up and running.

Asked on X whether Bliss was involved, mezone said no. This time it was a special shortcut to test the Linux side early. Once Bliss is fully working, the same setup should be usable right away.

Bliss is a big deal for the platform. Security researcher Markus “Doom” Gaasedelen presented it at RE//verse 2026 as a double voltage glitch that defeats the console’s early boot protections and allows unsigned code to run at every level, including the hypervisor, the operating system and the security processor. Because the weakness is in immutable boot ROM silicon, it cannot be patched. It affects early Xbox One hardware at the root of trust. guru3d semiengineering

Some caveats apply. Bliss requires carefully timed voltage faults on the CPU power rail during startup. That means hardware work, not a simple software jailbreak. It also appears to apply only to the original Xbox One, not the One S/X or the Series consoles. Still, for anyone with a launch-era Xbox One gathering dust, a homelab Linux box or homebrew machine is suddenly a realistic prospect. guru3d keyboardvagabond
