Introduction
Before you mod, repair or buy parts for a PlayStation 3, you need to know exactly which model it is. The model decides the laser, the cooling, and whether the console can run custom firmware (CFW), only PS3HEN, or qCFW with a modchip.

Step 1: Read the model number on the label
Turn the console around and look at the label on the back. The model number starts with CECH, for example CECHC04 (fat), CECH-2504B (Slim) or CECH-4004C (Super Slim).
