PlayStation shrinks to an extreme size

A new custom-built PlayStation, dubbed the PS1 Hybrid, has emerged. This console extreme minimizes the original motherboard to its bare essentials, combining components from two different revisions on a custom-designed PCB for the ultimate PlayStation experience.

Beyond drastically reducing the motherboard's size, the CD-ROM drive has been replaced with an SD card reader using the Xstation system. This significantly simplifies usage by digitizing the game library, which appears to be one of the central improvements.

The build is the result of designer Yosihino Kentarou's work and is described as the world's first hybrid console. The primary sources of information are a series of posts on X (formerly Twitter) and a video showcasing the console in action.
